When you decide to have fun from the hear and be part of the magic of a millennial event, you can join the  Vevčanski carnival, which takes place every year on the narrow streets of the village of Vevchani. And when you're here, just forget about everything, even the time and be someone else. The Vevčanski Carnival has been held for more than 1400 years and is celebrated on 13 and 14 January, when the old custom is sent old and is welcomed the new year. The sacrament of the dreaded masks and rituals will leave you breathless, and at the end of the holiday, you can join the traditional Vasiličarsko horo, followed by the ignition of all the masks in the center of the village. Location

Macedonia is a country located in the South-eastern Europe on the Balkan Peninsula. It borders north-west with Kosovo, east with Bulgaria, north with Serbia, south with Greece and west with Albania. There is a plenty of mountainous areas and extensive plains in the country. The capital is Skopje.

Transportation

Macedonia is a small country and you can also use the transport, the time you will reach will be almost the same, we recommend you rent a car and travel around the country. Macedonian buses are preferredinstead of trains as a comfort and convenience and taxis are cheaper compared to those in the other European countries and are also a good way to transport.

Languages Spoken

The official language is Macedonian. Other spoken languages ​​are: Albanian, Turkish, Romanesque and Bosnian. The younger people in society understand English as well.

Currency

The Macedonian Denar is the national currency. Other payment currencies are not accepted, even euro, US dollar or English pound. It is advisable to exchange currency in a bank or in a currency exchange. In the big cities there are many ATMs, of which, you can also withdraw money.

For citizens from EU Member States and Schengen countries, visa-free stay is allowed up to 90 days with an ID card only, visa regimes for all other countries.

Visit the Fortress Kale

Ohrid Lake

The beautiful Canyon Matka

In great proximity to Skopje, you can find the famous canyon Matka, formed by the Cod River flowing into the Emarmedsko lake. One of the most impressive things is to rent a kayak and or embark on a tourist boat that will take you to the Vrelo cave. If you are an amateur climber, you can also take advantage of the attractive conditions created by the rock formations in this area.

Macedonian culinary

By visiting this wonderful country you should undoubtedly enjoy the wonderful traditional dishes, a combination of Balkan, Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine. The traditional Macedonian cuisine is preserved centuries ago, characterized by its many types of meat, dairy and cereal products. Popular dishes are bean tavče gravče, chutney ajvar and the polenta resembling the Italian polenta.   

The town Heraclea Lyncestis

The ancient city of Philip the Macedonian has a huge cultural significance not only in the Balkans but also for all of Europe. Heraclea Lyncestis is located near the town of Bitoliâ and is a wonderful place for a walk reflecting the architectural creations of the Hellenistic and Roman times. In the past, it was one of the largest religious and cultural centers on the whole Balkan peninsula.

Taxi fares?

About 40 Macedonian Denara (MKD) is the starting price for traveling by taxi in Macedonia. Price of taxi per kilometer is about 30 MKD, and the waiting time of the taxi is 300 MKD. The cities of Macedonia are located at relatively close distances and you can always use taxis between cities, but keep in mind that prices are not low. The price of the taxi from the airport to Skopje is about 20 Euros

The climate in the north is mild and in the south-subtropical. In the summer months temperatures can reach up to 40 ° C. Weather in winter is the most commonly cool, cold and windy, while heavy snowfalls can cause delays in traveling mainly in the northern areas. Average annual rainfall in the country is relatively low.

Orthodox Christianity is prevalent in the country, followed by the Muslim faith. Catholicism, Induism, and Protestantism are also part of the religions of Macedonia. After the Ottoman rule there are many Muslims, most of them in Tetovo, Bitola, and Skopje. Jews are a few and most of them you can meet in Skopje.

The main motorways in Macedonia have special shops for paying the fees. You can always avoid them with bypass routes, but they are longer and in a worse state. Charges for tolls range from 40 to 80 Denara. 

Before you go to the country by car, you have to get a green card. It is a car driver's international insurance certificate.
